What I wore

Every morning I like to walk through my vegetable garden and see if there are any new veggies to be picked.

On my latest shopping trip I was hoping to find navy blue high waisted shorts. I didn’t have any luck, but I did find these regular waisted shorts and I love them! It seems like most of the shorts I own are so short and tight that they almost look like underwear.
I was excited to find two cucumbers! There were also two squash that were almost ready to be picked. So exciting!

I’ve also been into headbands recently. I want to start wearing them a lot more, I always seem to buy them, wear them once or twice and then forget about them.

What are your favorite fashion accessories?

Veggie Garden Update: Flowers Galore!

All of my vegetable plants are in bloom!

Tomato

Cucumber

Squash

My Zucchini haven’t started yet

My bean plant has outgrown it’s trellis!

Good news, my Luffa sprout survived the rabbit attacks and  is doing great! Better news, I have TWO of them! Shortly after posting that update I noticed that two more luffa sprouts popped up, making three! But then a bug came and ate one of them so I was left with two. I’m just happy they grew!

Eggplant flower

 My green beans!

Pepper plant

I can’t wait for all the vegetables!

Cat Photos Friday #18- Nap Time!

I’ve never met any cats that have more energy than mine. When I first got them, they never slept! They just raced aound the house like maniacs all day and nearly drove me insane. Now that they’re about two years old, they’ve calmed down a little bit and it’s not so rare to catch them sleeping anymore.

It is rare however, for them not to wake up when they hear my shutter go off, which then usually involves them getting up and walking over to sniff my camera.
She was sleeping on the very narrow TV stand. (Phone picture sorry!!)
Hehe they were laying the same exact way

Can’t blame him, I don’t think I’d be very happy to wake up to a camera in my face either!

Happy Friday!  Get plenty of rest this weekend!

New Look!

You may notice that it looks a bit different over here! I was just looking at my blog one day and I realized I disliked everything about the layout, I wanted something crisper and cleaner looking.  I am quite pleased with how it turned out! I kind of wish I took a screenshot of what it looked like before, so I could keep track of how it changes over time, but I kind of just started messing with the settings and before I knew it I came up with something completely different!

I am really happy with my new layout, I wasn’t to excited to show people my blog before, but now I want to show everyone!

Blue Ridge Parkway- Winding Roads

About a month ago Steven and I took a trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I never meant to wait so long before posting these, but once I got my new lens, I was less than enthused about these photos taken with my old one, especially since a lot of these were taken from inside the car. But maybe I’m just being picky.

This is probably the craziest road I have been on. It starts out pretty smooth, but then you have to go straight up the side of a mountain so it’s nothing but super steep hills with hairpin turns. I think I got sick every time we drove it.

This is the one shot I managed to get that kind of shows the crazy turns

The parkway is a scenic road that runs atop the Appalachian mountains in North Carolina and Virginia. It has some amazing views and we love driving along it. We try to take a trip up there at least once a year.

On some parts of the road you almost forget you’re approximately 3000 ft up

Until you go around a curve and there’s a straight drop down! With no guardrails!
I love the architecture of these old bridges

If you haven’t traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway before, I recommend checking it out! These photos don’t even begin to do it justice. You can see for miles. Miles and miles of mountain ranges with small towns and farms nestled in the valleys. The air up there is so fresh and relaxing.

Tiny Cacti

Last year while shopping for flower seeds I came across some cactus seeds! I had never even though about cacti growing from seed before, it seemed so strange and I couldn’t wait to get home and plant them so I could see what baby cactus sprouts looked like.

Four weeks later I still didn’t see anything and I was so disappointed. But then a few days later I finally saw one! I was so excited I screamed!    Soon enough a whole bunch of them began to pop up over the next few weeks.

Here are some pictures of last years batch. They look like perfect mini cacti <3

This one is my favorite. It has the perfect cactus shape!
This one is the scariest! Ouch!

Here are this years seedlings at different stages, they’re so tiny it’s hard to get good pictures of them.

The bigger one has it’s first spikes and the smaller ones are just starting to form theirs. It’s the small white dot in the center.
The one to the left is interesting. I haven’t seen that kind of sprout yet.
This one is my favorite sprout so far, I love the three little points! I’ve seen a few that start off with two points before but this is the first one I have seen with three.

One still has the seed attached!!

I can’t wait to see what type of cactus each sprout turns into. Last year I didn’t keep track of what sprout turns into what type of cactus, but this year I will pay more attention. I could probably find that out online, but I like waiting and being surprised!

I think planting cactus seeds will be a yearly tradition for me. Once I get way more than I can handle I’ll start giving them away as gifts, or who knows, maybe go into business!

What I wore- It’s summer!

 Outfit Details
Shorts: Target
Shirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Target
Necklace: Forever 21

It’s officially summer! Although it has been in the 80’s and 90’s for over a month now so spring has been long gone for a while.  I think I’ve mentioned before that for most of my life I despised summer, hated everything about it. I was only happy when it was cold outside. But then within the last year or so I started really liking summer and warm weather so I’m trying to enjoy every second of it!

This has been my go-to outfit for hot weather, I never used to wear tank tops, heck there were a few summers in a row that I refused to wear shorts! But now I am loving all the summer styles, especially anything mango or mint colored!

What are you favorite summer colors?

Veggie Garden Update: The Finished Fence!

In my last veggie garden update, I talked about how a certain little rabbit named Cosmo had been visiting my veggie garden.

I was using a rabbit repellent spray which seemed to be working, but shortly after my post that hungry guy ate ALL of my eggplant and banana pepper plants, most of my bell pepper plants, one chili pepper plant and entire broccoli plant! All in a matter of a few days! So I knew it was time to line the fence with rabbit wire.

First I had to seal the entire fence with a water proof and UV proof sealant. It took forever!
Then we took turns stapling the rabbit wire to the inside of the fence. It was tricky to unroll it, but the stapling part was fun! We had to be so careful not to squish the vegetable plants. At one point I screamed because I thought Steven had stepped on my last hot pepper plant. Turns out he had stepped just in front of it but I gave him a good scare!
Making sure the gate was rabbit proof

We worked on it every evening for about a week. We were worried the wire would make the fence ugly, but I acutally like it! I think it makes it look more like a vegetable garden and gives it a finished look. If I had known this ahead of time we would have finished the fence before we planted the vegetables so it would have been easier. We ended up losing a few bean plants, one got squished and one got covered in the sealant, turned brown and died. But I had a bunch of bean plants so not big deal!

The fence has been up for a few weeks now and so far no more veggie fatalities! I can’t believe one little rabbit could do so much destruction, but at least now my plants are safe 🙂

It was fun building the fence, but I am looking forward to next year when all I need to do is rough up the soil and put the plants in the ground.

What I Wore

 Outfit Details
Skirt: Forever 21
Shirt: Thrifted
Shoes: Forever 21
Necklace: Handmade by me!

I took these photos months ago when we visited some art galleries downtown, but I kept forgetting to get a closeup shot of those amazing shoes! I saw them on the same day I got these shoes, but they didn’t have my size. 🙁 Months went by and I was sure I’d never see them again when  suddenly they restocked them! I was so happy!

The skirt is another one of my favorites, it’s made out of a stretchy material and is lightweight, not bulky like another lace skirt I have.
